The discovery of the Gasteiner well in the 7th Century is attributed to two hunters, who chased a shot-injured deer, and found it at a steaming water spring, where ill animals tended their wounds.

Examinations have proved, that the rain water had seeped into the area of the Graukogels and the Hüttenkogels at about 1.800 Meter above sea level, sank to a depth of 2.000 m, where it warmed and appeared again at about 1000 m. above sea level in the region of Badberges in Bad Gastein – producing 18 different springs capable of producing 5 million liters of water a day.

The thermal water is weakly mineralized, holds radon and possesses a temperature of 44 - 47°C..

Radon is a noble gas, which escapes from the water like the carbon dioxide from lemonade - consequently collecting itself in the air. Through the respiration system, this gas is breathed into the body, where it produces a healing effect and then diminishes after approximately three hours again, completely.

This noble gas energizes the cell metabolism, promotes the repair achievement of the cells and produces pain-killing substances in the body. Bases and effect of the cure are subject to continual controls from the recognized research institute "Gasteiner Tauernregion".
