Hiking Holiday in Gastein
Have fun in the mountains in beautiful Gastein
NEW: We are a certified hiking hotel with the ‘Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality’
Every summer, Gastein opens its doors to a natural paradise. The majestic Gastein Mountains, situated at the foot of the Hohe Tauern National Park, are a beautiful prelude to the nature preserve. Colourful mountain flowers border the over 350km of marked hiking trails. The clearly marked trails range in difficulty from family-friendly easy to high-alpine. 55 alpine huts, restaurants and taverns – some historic – await your arrival with their regional specialties.
Feel the pulse of the natur
If you don’t want to walk by foot , you can take the Gastein mountain railway to reach comfortably magnificent viewpoints . The best way to explore our beautiful nature is to hike, to see the reflection of yourself in a crystal clear mountain lake and to inhale fresh mountain air to the fullest . A feeling of boundless freedom , peace and harmony .
Experience the mountain’s exciting side
Europe’s highest suspension bridge
The 140-metre long suspension bridge on the Stubnerkogel in Bad Gastein
breaks two records at once: it is the first suspension bridge at an elevation of
2,300 metres and is accessible throughout the year.
Visitors to the
restaurant at the mountain station of the new Stunberkogel Cable Car, located
just metres away from the suspension bridge, will experience a real adrenaline
kick: the 140-metre long and one metre wide swinging suspension bridge leads
directly from the restaurant’s terrace to the transmission tower. Strong nerves
and no fear of heights are required for such a feat because of the views from
the bridge. Wire mesh is the only thing separating adventure seekers from the
28-metre drop.

NEW - Glockner Viewpoint
A trip to the peak of the
Stubnerkogel Mountain just got even better. A new, attractive viewing platform
named “Glocknerblick” (“Glockner view”) is situated next to the 140-metre long,
gently rocking suspension bridge. It allows its brave visitors a fantastic view
of Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3,798 m).
The round viewing
plateau has a diameter of seven metres. It is made mostly out of steel and wood.
A see-through mesh fence protects the platform’s sides. The front part of the
platform hangs out over the edge of the mountain and has a glass floor, allowing
a clear view to the abyss below.
Living Rocks
A mountain invites you to a very
special adventure trip. Hike to the Schlossalm and romantic places with open
eyes and be astonished…
After your cable car journey to the “Kleine
Scharte” station (2,050 m), enjoy the 360º view of the fascinating mountain
world and prepare your eyes and senses for the exciting adventure that nature
has in store for you.
The beauty of the pristine landscape joins you each
and every step of the way: enchanting flora, one-of-a-kind fauna and bizarre
rock formations, polished by the wind and weather. “We show you places where you
can best experience the different moods of nature”, says director of the Gastein
Cable Cars Franz Schafflinger, of the fantastic rock formations that nature has
created here.
Depending on the
angle and your imagination, you might see a horse, a cow or eagle in the
mountain! Train your inner eye and try to discover the silhouettes. Says
Schafflinger, “There are no man-made formations in the rock. These formations
have always existed in the Schlossalm. You just have to find
them…“
