Holidays in Gastein
Why we love Bad Hofgastein
Almost no other region boasts such a variety of offers for health and relaxation as the Gastein Valley – whether the impressive mountains, the welcoming huts and restaurants, the wide valley or the historic spa and health resort traditions. With regular use, the natural noble gas radon – whose healing powers have been used for more than 700 years in combination with the warmth of the earth and water – produces miraculous effects.
The valley is also special due to its south-facing location. It lies on the crest of the north/south weather divide. This location makes for very special weather conditions in the valley.
When the warm, southerly mountain wind blows through the valley and creates unique cloud formations; when fog and sun create a fairy tale-like, almost unreal, landscape over the pastures; when the spring snow glistens on the mountain top and flowers bloom in the fields: …everyone should see this wonderful valley first-hand.
The Valley is also exceptional in its traditional diversity.
A mix of rustic, rural nature, local customs and centuries-old traditions. A place for rest and well-being.
For more than 700 years, people from around the world have found healing, strength and regeneration in Gastein’s hot healing springs , whose 48°C waters flow from the earth at a rate of more than 5 million litres a day.
We invite our guests to enjoy the valley and nature’s offerings in all seasons, no matter the weather. Innumerable hiking trails, more than 100 working pastures, hundreds of kilometres of ski trails , the diverse spa offers or the province’s capital city Salzburg encourage guests to use their holiday as a time to muse, relax and regenerate. With the Austrian Railway’s Tauern Rail, getting to the valley without your own vehicle is easy and comfortable – making even your journey an opportunity to relax.
Health is more than just the absence of illness. Being healthy really has to do with well-being, satisfaction and happiness. Thanks to its mineral springs and the natural agent radon, the Gastein Valley has been known for centuries as a health haven. Recently, our valley was named by a renowned geomancer as one of the most energetically important health centres in Europe.
